YNET
Yarra
Ranges Community Access Network (YNET) is a Skills.net project
funded by Multimedia Victoria in 1999. As a joint venture
between the Shire of Yarra Ranges, Swinburne University of
Technology, Lilydale, and Eastern Regional Libraries, YNET
was originally conceived to provide Internet access and training
to those in Yarra Ranges communities who do not have such
resources. In addition, YNET was set up to strengthen community
links via the Internet, to promote Internet use for communication
and dissemination of information, and to link and promote
the many organisations within the Yarra Valley.
Dedicated YNET terminals are currently located at
- Dandenong Ranges Cultural Centre (DRCCC)
- Eastern Regional Libraries - Belgrave
- Eastern Regional Libraries - Healesville
- Eastern Regional Libraries - Lilydale
- Eastern Regional Libraries - Yarra Junction
- Kallista Community House
- Montrose Town Centre
- Mooroolbark Community Centre
- Yarra Ranges Service Centre - Monbulk
All of these locations offer Internet access to people who join YNET, with free membership that entails five free hours of Internet use. Any use subsequent to this attracts a charge of $2.50 per hour. YNET training is provided at either the DRCCC or Swinburne University, Lilydale. Training is also free to YNET members and is facilitated by cadets employed by Swinburne University, Lilydale. As of July 2001, 7124 training hours had been offered to the Yarra Ranges community.
